Quicksand Shawl to Knit

Yes, this one will suck you in that fast! LOL!

This shawl is fun and easy to make. Knit from the top down, the increases form a graceful, swirly shawl that ends with a no-wrap short row edging that is knit in the same direction as the shawl and bound off as you knit each point. This shawl stays in place and hugs your shoulders.

You can make this with any weight of yarn you like with needle size recommended for that yarn. Very easy to make larger and the edging will work no matter how big you make it.

I knit 3 versions of this shawl and give directions for each in the pattern.

1. Shadow Stitch
Only one purl row in every 4. This one was made from Yarn Bee Sequin Diva with size 7 knitting needles. 350 yards gave me a shawl 36" neckline x 14" deep after blocking.

2. Shadow Stitch Stripes

Same pattern stitch as #1 but knit alternating colors every 2 rows. I used Yarn Bee Fetching in Citrine and Pewter. About 475 yards. I steam blocked this one from the wrong size for a 31.5" neckline x 14" deep shawl.

3. Garter Stitch Stripes
Alternate colors every 2 rows and a third color used for the border. No purling required for this one! I used odd balls of Knit Pick Shine Sport in river, willow, and apricot. About 470 yards. This one is pretty weighty so I didn't bother to block it. Measures 32" neckline x 15" deep.

Leap Frog Scarf & Baby Headband to crochet

I've added 2 more free patterns to my Ravelry store for crocheters.

Leap Frog Scarf
The stitches in this design remind me of the game of Leap Frog I played as a kid with one kid continuously leaping over the next. The design is a simple two row repeat that is very easy to remember. It is a fast project with 200 yards of worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook. I made my 56" x 6" scarf out of a single skein of Bernat Mosaic in the spectrum colorway. The pattern has written directions and a crochet chart.

Baby Headband
This is a little something I whipped up to go along with a baby shower gift. Crochet a simple cord and a flower and attach the flower to the cord with a button. Could be used as a package tie on, kids hairband or choker necklace. It only takes scraps of sport weight yarn and a size G crochet hook. It is about 20" long.
